Question 1

How do I know if a problem is actually a good fit for AI, versus a simpler fix?

Accepted Answer

If the task is repetitive, well-defined, and currently done manually by a person, that's usually a strong candidate. If the task requires judgment that genuinely varies case by case, a simpler rule-based automation, or no automation at all, is often the better and cheaper answer.

Question 2

Is it risky to let an AI feature interact directly with customers?

Accepted Answer

It depends entirely on what it's doing and how it's tested beforehand. A feature evaluated against real cases before launch, with a clear path for what happens when it doesn't know the answer, is a very different risk than one launched straight from a demo.

Question 3

How long does it typically take to know if an AI feature is actually working?

Accepted Answer

Long enough to see it handle real, varied situations, not just the ones anticipated during development. A feature that looks finished after a week of testing often hasn't been tested against enough of what actually happens in practice.

Question 4

What's the difference between AI and automation, and does it matter which one I need?

Accepted Answer

Automation follows fixed rules, AI handles situations that vary too much for fixed rules to cover well. It matters because automation is usually cheaper and more predictable, so the right starting question is whether the problem genuinely needs AI's flexibility or whether simpler automation already solves it.

Question 5

Can an existing website or system get an AI feature added later, or does it need to be built in from the start?

Accepted Answer

Added later, in almost every case. The feature gets built into the systems already in use rather than requiring a rebuild, which is part of why starting from a real, specific problem matters more than trying to plan for every possible AI feature upfront.

Question 6

What does an AI feature cost to run after it is built?

Accepted Answer

Usually three things: usage that scales with how much the feature is used, the time somebody spends reviewing output, and the attention needed to notice when accuracy drifts. Ask what a busy month costs rather than an average one, since usage pricing is normally quoted at a comfortable volume.

Question 7

What data leaves my business when I use one of these features?

Accepted Answer

That depends on the vendor and it is a fair question to ask directly. Find out what is sent, whether it is retained, for how long, and whether it improves the vendor's own product. Most have clear answers, and the ones that do not have told you something useful.

Question 8

What should my first AI project be?

Accepted Answer

Something internal and small. A task your own team repeats, where they can judge the output immediately and a mistake costs an apology to a colleague rather than a customer. It gives you a realistic error rate, which is the number that decides where the feature can safely go next.
